Basic Information

keybinds

Understanding the keybinds required for certain actions can take a little bit of time to learn.

But how do you approach asking in game?

In the heat of the moment it can be easy to forget the correct keybind when being asked to do something, or you're asking how to do something.

The correct roleplay way to ask this question would be "Which muscle do I use to........."

How do you answer that type of question in game?

This isn't as straight forward, there is no real RP way to say some of these such as F7. But you can respond with things like "Think about being at a computer on your keyboard and hitting the F7 key"

To find information regarding keybinds, there is an in game list that is always up to date, find them in Settings > FiveM

You can also customise these to your choosing!

An important keybind that you will use extremely often is what is commonly known as the third eye or alternate eye.

This keybind starts out as TAB but commonly is changed to LEFT ALT hence the name alternate eye!

The purpose of this is when pressed it will allow you to interact with certain items/NPC's via a menu, this is a cleaner way of approaching development for menus, instead of having glowing circles or prompts everywhere it's hidden unless you are purposefully looking for it!

On the left we have how it will look when there is a prompt on key press

On the right we have how it looks if you're too far away or no prompt when key pressed

Slash commands /

There aren't as many commands that you can input as there are keybinds, but they still play a vital function at times in aiding your roleplay. If a command requires more than 1 word to complete, the game guides you with anything extra you need to put in. Below is a list of noteable commands you can use in game, however some may be missing or added at a later date!

/e VariableHere

/e is the shortcut to using emotes, so /e surrender will have your character drop to their knees and hand behind head! And you can then use /e c to cancel the emote you are currently doing!

/ooc VariableHere

/ooc is a global text channel, this isn't for general conversation! OOC is to be rarely used, it's there to inform people of important things, /ooc just to make officers aware my friend crashed who was in passenger seat. If you use it for general chat you will quickly find yourself OOC muted!

/report ID Reason

/report is the in game function for reporting rule breakers, this directly sends a report and notifies the staff on discord so they can jump in and see what's happening. /report 1 is cruising around the streets with no torso and trolling players, punching people for no reason, generally being toxic.

/outfitadd # name

/outfituse #

/outfitdel #

/outfits

So here we have a batch of commands that all fit together, these commands allow you to control outfits whilst at a wardrobe for your character, for example these are in clothing stores, motel rooms, whitelist job changing rooms.

These don't really need much of an explanation the # resembles number and name can be what you want

For example : /outfitadd 1 clubbing /outfituse 1 /outfitdel 1

The /outfits command doesn't require any variable input, this will just give you a list of the outfits your character has in their wardrobe!

/me VariableHere

GTA is heavily limited on how it displays actions, this is where the /me command comes into play. You use a /me when you want to symbolize an action happening, it's a great way of adding better immersion to the roleplay. When this action is used it displays text above a players head, this is intended for you to just read in your head, acknowledge and react appropriately.

A great example of this being used in action would be /me Drops keys out of window

This would show the text above the player *Drops keys out of window* and would symbolize to the officer pulling you over that you no longer have the car keys in your possession.

/streamermode

This one is a simple little toggle, we respect that players may wish to stream their journey on the server. This toggle attempts to stop the in game music features playing copyrighted music for you only, it's not 100% but it works most of the time.

Rule breaks

So we are going to split this part of the guide into 2 sections, the first part will cover how YOU handle through roleplay someone breaking rules, the second part we will go over the process of reporting and the steps involved!

A key thing to remember, is pretty much everything is logged for staff to see, from items being taken, to the location shots were fired. This means you can quite easily be compensated for your losses!

HANDLING RULE BREAKS IN ROLEPLAY

Most of the rule breaks that happen on the server you can roleplay out and then report once the situation has ended, this allows for things to feel a little smoother and be less awkward. However! There are 3 rule break scenarios that you can break character to send the situation immediately. Meaning you can walk away and report this without being punished yourself for failRP as it simply will not be tolerated in roleplay on New Chance.

Scenario 1 - Sexual assault RP

There is no place for it in real life, and there is no place for it within roleplay. If you find yourself in a scenario where things are getting a little to freaky, you are 100% allowed to stop everything tell them to stop and report it straight away!

Scenario 2 - Suicide roleplay

Suicide based roleplay is probably the most common, it's a way of people ending their characters lives to start anew but it's actually against our rules! People use games to escape the harsh grips of reality, and in some cases to forget about bad past times. Due to the distressing nature that comes with this action, we approve of you walking away and again reporting the individual!

Scenario 3 - Mutilation

Finally we also understand people get attached to their characters, because of this actions roleplayed by others physically do effect your story. Mutilation and dismemberment isn't against our server rules as such, if all parties agree for the purpose of character development there is no issue, however! If you find yourself in a situation where someone is trying to force this, again you can walk away/ask them to stop without getting in trouble.

So now we've covered the scenarios where you can walk away from a rule break, how do you proceed if they are breaking a different rule?

Proceed with what's happening to the best of your ability, 99% of the time you can roleplay out what's happening to you, for example :-

Player randomly kills you? - Check to see if EMS are online using 'Z', if they are around you can roleplay out your injuries! Just because it's a rule break doesn't mean everything has to stop, you can roleplay out your injuries providing interactions for other people, this works even if it's someone passing by! Once you're in hospital and in ICU, you can then spend time going through the below.

If no EMS are around you can open a help ticket, but if someone finds you do the above!

You're being held up at a police station by a random person? - The rule being broken is NVL, however it's better for everyone involved if you comply with the demands, if they want a hostage go be their hostage, if they are just robbing you then let them rob you! The key is to not break rules yourself, fear for your life, once the situation has passed make the report and staff will compensate any lost items.

Someone is breaking character around you? - People sometimes forget they are in roleplay, and will start saying phrases such as "game, screen, keyboard, mouse etc". More often than not you can work your way round these remarks, either ignore what they've said or make a hint such as "what do you mean screen? Are you on about your phone screen as I don't see any screens anywhere".

Hopefully it's just a blip and they'll stop pretty quickly, but regardless you should make a report as it may be something they're doing far too often.

There is too many scenarios to list, but hopefully you get the point. Just because someone is breaking a rule around you, doesn't mean you need to make the situation worse by breaking rules back, stay relaxed go with the flow as best as possible if the situation permits, and then report it once you are in a position to do so!

REPORTING RULE BREAKERS

So we covered the /report command earlier in this section, but here is the more in depth way to report a rule breaker in the city.

To see other player ID's when you press the Z key to bring up the scoreboard, you will see their ID's above the players head.

To get your own player ID, press F4 and the menu there will show you your ID.

A great tool for clipping gameplay is a software called medal - https://medal.tv/

STEP 1 - Identify the rule break that's happening, make sure you know and keep up to date with the server rules found here -

STEP 2 - Once you are confident the situation has passed and you're in a position to do so, head over to discord and look for the help request section as pictured on the right!

STEP 3 - Fill out the prompted information, evidence isn't always required but is always preferred so keep that in mind, staff cannot work on the word of others they will need something solid to work off of. Therefore remembering key parts such as guns being fired in X location, what items were taken from you, where you went down, what their player ID was etc.

STEP 4 - Go back to your roleplay and liaise with staff when they require your input, they'll get back to you with a verdict once a decision has been made.

New Chance works on a point based system, it's designed to punish repeat offenders harder than those who make the odd mistake over a prolonged period of time. If you disagree with the outcome of your report you can always request it to be viewed by a second staff member, but quite often a decision is made by a team of people viewing the reports together.

roleplay terminology

It's all about immersion, keeping the OOC (Out Of Character) away from the IC (In Character) is key to providing a good roleplay experience, all of which is controlled by you the player. And really we can't stress it enough, if you are in city or in a discord channel that's specifically marked IC, then you need to keep it in character.

Sometimes there will be happenings that just can't really be explained, such as a game crashing. Well we now go over a few of the scenarios you may encounter that can be awkward to tiptoe around, with some basic ways you can RP your way around it, but get creative too!

And just in case you needed it made extremely easy

Red = Bad
Green = Good

BAD = Sorry my game crashed

GOOD = Sorry I passed out and woke up without a clue what happened, or where I was for a moment.

BAD = I'm getting really bad FPS currently, my game's lagging

GOOD = I have a serious headache currently, feels like things are jumping around, I might need a minute to relax.

BAD = The queue to get in city was so long, sorry I'm late

GOOD = Sorry I overslept and it took a bit of time getting ready, traffic was a nightmare too!

BAD = I need to reload my game

GOOD = I think I dropped my keys/phone, I need to quickly just run back around the corner and find it, wait here I'll be back in 2 minutes. (make sure you disconnect where people can't see you)

BAD = I think I'm done for the night, I'm going to log off

GOOD = I'm getting really tired, I think I'm going to hit the hay and get some bits done at home, I'll pop you a text when I'm next around with some free time.
(make sure you disconnect where people can't see you)

Sometimes you will need to step away from your PC, try your best to isolate yourself temporarily for anything roleplay based, other players may find you and try to interact with you. This will create awkward scenarios for other people, so find a bush, a bathroom, a hidden corner anything that keeps you further away from being found the better!

Also take into consideration how long you will be gone for, if it's less than a minute maybe to just check discord or google something and you're still at your PC, it could be a little something like this:

BAD = I need to tab out for a second

GOOD = I need to just take a moment to think, it might seem like I'm day dreaming!

If you're likely to be away for longer, where you will actually be away from your PC for a couple of minutes, consider something like this:

BAD = I need to grab a drink and let the dog out, give me 2 minutes.

GOOD = I really need to pee, can we quickly find somewhere quiet or a bathroom where I can take a minute to sort myself out, it's urgent.

GOOD = Let me send you a message on discord real quick, hey check discord, did you see the instagram post on discord?

Referring to discord is okay, from a roleplay perspective consider Discord as a social website with numerous functions not some taboo OOC reference.

Being an online server, on a modded client, things sometimes go a bit whack. One of these things will be the wonderful world of Desync, where from your perspective something different happens to everyone else perspective. A common phrase used in this is "Not in my eyes", don't do that! Go with the interaction, shit happens and you need to learn to roll with the punches, this is why it's deemed roleplay!
